The History of Bognor Regis Nursery School

Did you know Bognor Regis Nursery School began during World War II, caring for children evacuated from London and to look after children whose parents were needed in the war effort. Our very first home was at The Shrubbery on Upper Bognor Road… before moving to Victoria Drive on 1st July 1946. 80-years of serving our community!

I am incredibly proud to be part of a school with such a rich history. Miss Elger dedicated 27 years as Head of School from 1951 to 1978, and it is an honour to follow in the footsteps of such committed leaders.

Having started as Head of School in January 2026, I feel very fortunate to lead such a special school community. The responsibility is huge, but I am supported by an amazing team of skilled, dedicated and passionate staff who work tirelessly to ensure that every child receives the care, nurture and learning opportunities they deserve. Together, we are helping to build strong foundations for our children, creating happy memories and supporting them to flourish.

Whilst looking through old photos of Bognor Regis Nursery School, we discovered something very special… our original registers from 1946. These date back to the very year we moved to Victoria Drive—80 years ago!

It’s amazing to think how many children have been part of our nursery family over the years… and how that story is still continuing today.

We have a very special rocking horse here at Bognor Regis Nursery School. It’s the original rocking horse from when we moved to Victoria Drive 80 years ago!

Even more amazing… children are still enjoying playing on it today.

If you look closely at the back of the old photo, you can spot it—still part of our nursery life all these years later!
